Arrival instructions

Greetings Soft Landing!

We hope that your packing is well underway and that you are finding room for both essentials (water? food? extra socks? and even more extra socks?) as well as those items that bring an abundance of play and whimsy to the playa.

This may be the single most important newsletter of the season – arrival instructions!

Arrival instructions

As you approach camp, there are a few important items to help you with your arrival.

  • Front of camp is at the corner of 6:30 and F Street, facing the mountains.

  • When you arrive:

    • Please temporarily park in front of camp and right off the F street:

      • In front of the bicycle racks, in front of Tea House or Palenque Norte tents

      • DO NOT drive through camp!

      • DO NOT park in fire lanes at the edge of camp!

      • DO NOT park in the street where your vehicle might impede passing traffic!

    • Check in to the Tea House.

      • During the day, the Tea House will help find “Champion of the Clipboard” Nectar or Roo, who will give you a big dusty hug and check you in/place you in your camping spot.

      • If you arrive after 10:00 PM, please relax in the Tea House or the Palenque Norte Tent until the morning when the “Champion of the Clipboard” will welcome you.

      • Everyone in camp must check-in so that we do not worry about you.

  • IMPORTANT - Do not drive through camp.  Build Crew will have stuff laying around and we don’t want to damage your vehicle.  If you do damage your vehicle, it can be costly to get it fixed on playa.  We will support you during the ordeal, but plan on staying for a day of Strike Crew.  Of course, please try to avoid any such ordeal by not driving through camp!

  • On site, we will confirm dues paid, shift sign-ups, so if you have not yet done either, please do that now:

  • Please remember the principle of Radical Self Reliance.  We don’t recommend challenging the All Knowing Clipboard of Truth!

Departure instructions

We all must exodus!  As part of the values of communal effort and civic responsibility, we all work together to Leave No Trace at the end of this year’s burn.

  • To strike, we break down camp and clean up all MOOP (matter out of place) before leaving playa.

    • All-camp strike begins on Saturday and through Sunday before the Temple Burn.

    • We need extra hands on Saturday to help with taking down the PN Tent.

  • On Sunday, starting before 10am, each pod is responsible for taking down their own shade structure and staging the parts by the trailer.

    • If you plan on leaving before strike begins and need access to the road, please let us know before you set up so we can ensure you have access to leave when needed.

  • When you’re ready to leave…

    • Do not drive through camp.

    • Do not block the fire lane.

    • Drive only from the parking area and along the fire lane to leave camp.

Palenque Norte Schedule

We have an amazing lineup of speakers (and experiences!) planned for this year’s burn.  Check out the PN line-up here!

Missed Something?

Curious about supper club?  The talent show?  Leadership opportunities?  Check out previous newsletters on our website archive here.

Reminder about Recording and Consent

The use of Meta or other recording glasses is strictly prohibited in camp by camp members and by guests.  The use of these is considered non-consensual recording and photography, which is prohibited by the BORG.  We will kindly ask anyone to remove and store those in their backpack.

Communication Hiatus

As camp leadership heads to playa for build, they will be unable to respond to emails or communications.  Take a moment to find a friend (or two!) who you can problem-solve with as situations arise.   It's time to put radical self-reliance to action!

On-Playa Dates

  • On-Playa Camp Meeting:  Monday, August 31 @ Noon in Palenque Norte

  • Various Camp Training (such as teahouse training!):  Monday, August 31 @ 1:00 - 2:00 p.m. (after the All Camp Meeting)

Love and dusty hugs,
