Participation opportunities

We have a plethora of opportunities for campers to participate in or lead. We always need lots of help with Build and Strike!

Or, do you have another idea of how you want to contribute to camp? We’d love to hear it!

The Full Circle Teahouse

The Full Circle Teahouse offers 24-hour gongfu-inspired tea service throughout burn week. Servers share tea and empathy during six-hour shifts. Runners wash cups and teapots, refill jars of herbs and tea, carry water, and tidy. Shifts on Thursday, Friday, Saturday, and Sunday nights count as 1.5x shifts toward your dues cost!

Palenque Norte

The Palenque Norte Speaker series will run Tuesday-Friday, featuring a variety of illustrious, weird, and insightful speakers from psychedelia, technology, social justice, community building, politics, and other fields. This year, we’ll also be featuring music or movies in the evening! Volunteers for Palenque Norte will help with recording and audio/visual tech, and with fluffing and emceeing for the speakers, DJs, and musicians. This is a wonderful opportunity to catch all the speakers on a particular day if they interest you!

Love Kitchen

Collectively, camp is focused on making Soft Landing's modest amenities as awesome as they can be for all our camp members. The Water Protectors will help to ensure that all campers know how to wisely engage with our grey water and shower systems. The Kitchen Keeper will remind people to be tidy and facilitate community interaction in the kitchen and dining areas.

Mayor for the Day

Wanna be the boss? Enjoy meeting new people? In this role, you stick around camp most of the day. You'll be the primary person in charge of the electrical and propane systems. Don’t worry, we'll teach you everything you need to know about how they run. Along with the Love Kitchen crew, you'll ensure that the community kitchen and shower stay clean and organized. You'll answer questions campers might have, receive any fuel or water deliveries scheduled for that day, and other tasks needed for the smooth operation of the camp. You'll also help pod leaders with mediation and dispute resolution, as your experience permits. Camp mayors work with the camp leads.

Build

It takes a lot of work to bring our magical camp together! Build will take place in Black Rock City Monday, August 24 through Saturday, August 29. If you're interested in helping with build, please contact build@campsoftlanding.co.

Strike

All campers will help with taking down big structures and de-MOOPing camp, however we need a dedicated strike crew that will stay through the end. All hands on deck! Strike (camp tear down) is essential to return the playa to its natural state and to ready our infrastructure for future years.

Strike will be Sunday 9/6 (Temple Burn night — 12pm - 6pm), Monday 9/7 (9am - 8pm), and Tuesday 9/8 (9am - 12pm). We will drop off the trailer near Reno on Tuesday.

Strike crew members who help with the entire strike will be eligible for a refund on camp dues of up to $100, to be issued after the event (upon approval by strike lead). Each single day of strike crew participation counts as one shift toward your dues.

How to sign up for shifts

2026 shift sign ups will open closer to burn. Keep an eye out in your inbox for newsletters announcing the dates.

Before you pay your dues, sign up for shifts.

You will need to enter your shift information upon payment. Please do not sign up for shifts that begin 24 hours or less before you plan to hit playa. On that note, please do not have everyone in your car sign up for the same shift. Things happen!
